At our production facilities, we make chemical fertilisers, which are used around the world in the cultivation of crops to feed people and animals. The invention of the chemical process to produce nitrogen fertilisers from natural gas and air spurred a rapid increase in agricultural productivity. Our industry's task is to optimise the contribution of fertilisers to the improvement of yield, quality, soil conservation, farming income and food security, while minimising the negative impact on the environment.
In 2012, we acquired Azomures S.A., the largest Romanian chemical fertiliser production plant with a nameplate capacity of 1.6 mn metric tons of nitrogenous fertilisers. Products range from (calcium) ammonium nitrate and urea to complex nitrogen phosphorous potassium (NPK) fertiliser and melamine. The output is sold in bulk or bagged on domestic, regional and export markets via trucks, trains and ocean-going vessels. Azomures is the biggest employer in the Transylvanian region of Romania.
In Hobart, Tasmania, our subsidiary Impact Fertilisers operates a SSP (Single Superphosphate) production plant with a capacity of 200’000 metric tons annually. Impact also operates several blending and packing facilities, where customised fertiliser formulas are produced to customers’ orders.
Ameropa is a minority shareholder in Shanxi Huarui, a chemical fertiliser plant in China, producing nitrogen-based fertilisers.
