Kamwokya Community Playground
(October 23, 2018)
On the occasion of the 70th birthday of Ameropa, it is a pleasure to announce that the Ameropa Foundation will deliver a special gift to the community of Kamwokya, a marginalised community of Kampala, the capital of Uganda. About 35,000 people live in Kamwokya in very dire conditions.
For ten years the Ameropa Foundation has been active in Kampala, specifically in Kamwokya. Finem (Uganda) Ltd., our Micro-Finance Institute, has been offering micro-credits and loans to about 1000 small and mid-sized enterprises, of which about 750 are in Kamwokya. Through the international organisation Right to Play, play-based educational classes have been offered in nine schools for the last three years.
We strongly believe that marginalised communities deserve the best we can offer, and so we are delighted that Francis Kéré, the internationally renowned architect from Burkina Faso, has agreed to design a playground, pro bono.
We are proud that we are able to offer this gift to the people of Kamwokya. The excitement and delight of the community, of our local partner, of the politicians and everybody involved, is palpable.
