SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
In collaboration with Avail, the Ameropa Foundation initiated an urban farming project in Kamwokya, Uganda, with the goal of establishing a Kamwokya Center of Excellence as well as four additional contact centers, with a focus on building community resilience through innovative skills development and creating opportunities through urban farming by way of the following activities:
- Demonstration and training in urban farming, highlighting household vegetable production.
- Creation of a professional seedling production unit. For vegetables and Speciality plants.
- Education about waste management for environmental adaption and protection.
The centre demonstrates the critical interactions of the land-water-climate nexus within a growing city, showcasing to the stakeholders different innovative urban vegetable farming techniques. In addition, newly trained participants are then able to sell quality seedlings at affordable rates for the sustainability of the project.
