Chimpex Boosts Terminal Operations with New Material Handlers
Chimpex, an Ameropa Company in Romania, has successfully installed two Mantsinen 140DES portal-mounted clamshell bucket material handlers at its terminal in Constanta. These machines enhance operational efficiency, increase cargo-handling capacity, and enable faster discharge of bulk cargo from barges and vessels up to handy size all while maintaining the high safety standards that we prioritize in our company culture.
Founded in 1971, Chimpex has grown into a leading port terminal operator in Constanta. Acquired by Ameropa in 2012, it has modernized its infrastructure to meet growing demand. Some key development milestones worth mentioning in Chimpex’s history:
- The 2017 opening of a new grain terminal with 200,000 tonnes of storage, strengthening Chimpex’s position as a reliable logistics hub for bulk cargo in the region. Safety and efficiency have been central to this development, ensuring that growth is sustainable and operations remain secure for employees and clients.
- And now, the addition of the two Mantsinen 140DES material handlers marks another step forward in Chimpex’s development. These machines not only increase output and reduce vessel turnaround times but also support safer cargo handling by improving precision and minimizing manual operations. This allows the terminal to handle larger volumes more efficiently while protecting employees, equipment, and cargo.
With these upgrades, Chimpex is better positioned to serve its clients, reinforce Ameropa’s regional supply chain operations, and continue its commitment to safe, efficient, and reliable terminal operations.
” The replaced shore cranes were around 35 years old and had reached the end of their economic lifetime,” said Serhan Yardimci, General Manager of Chimpex. “From both a sustainability perspective and a drive for greater efficiency and productivity, replacing them became a necessary step, which was also a welcome development by our Management Board. The new equipment enables us to operate with improved energy performance, higher handling capacity, and enhanced reliability, all while maintaining our strong commitment to safe and responsible operations. “
