AMEROPA BULK SHIPPING (ABS) - RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS POLICY


While more than 90% of the world trade is carried across the seas, the global shipping industry accounts only for about 2-3% of the world's total Co2 emissions. Seaborne transport is therefore the most energy-efficient way to move goods over long distances.

BUSINESS


As a time charter operator of 15-20 modern bulk carriers it trades ocean freight and supports Ameropa’s own transportation requirements.

ABS does not own any vessels.

ABS is responsible for the commercial operation of the vessels, including contracting voyages and cargoes and coordinating related activities such as bunkering, routing, optimisation of voyages. The responsibility for crewing, maintenance and compliance with international regulations and maritime conventions lies with the ship owner.

We recognise that our responsibility goes beyond our own operations and extends to other areas of the chain. We ensure that our contracted vessel owners, charterers, vendors and service providers to comply with all applicable laws and regulations. We apply the following policies:

TIME CHARTER POLICY


When ABS charters vessels for a period exceeding 6 months,
we check and ensure that:

  • The vessel is maximum 15 years of age.
  • The vessel and its owners comply with the requirements of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and are in possession of a valid Document of Compliance (DOC) as well as a valid Safety Management Certificate (SMC).
  • The vessels crew must be employed under terms and conditions acceptable to the International Trade Federation (ITF) or its affiliates.
  • The vessel must be insured with an internationally recognized P&I Club.
  • The vessel must be well maintained and have no outstanding deficiencies from the last Port State Control.
  • The vessel and her owners are not sanctioned by OFAC, the EU or Switzerland.
  • The vessel must be classed with a classification society which is a member of the International Association of Classification Societies.

OPERATING POLICY


In our daily operation, we ensure that:
 

  • All cleaning agents required for cleaning of cargo compartments are in accordance with MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution by ships) regulations and not harmful to the marine environment.
  • Removal and disposal of all cleaning agents is always in accordance with MARPOL rules.
  • Our vessels operate at optimal speed at all times while taking cost and available time into consideration, with a view to consume as little fuel as possible. We use weather routing services and reduce speed whenever conditions allow.
